FAQ

If you have any questions about the World Players Championship, please check to see that they are not answered on this page or on the Player Enquiries page, then contact us as indicated at the bottom of that page.

How High a Rating Do I Need To Compete?

The WPC is open to all players who have played at least one officially sanctioned tournament in their home country, and are a current member of their home country’s association, regardless of their current rating. There will be prizes that weaker players will have a reasonable chance of winning.

Can You Help Me Get a Visa?

If you need a letter of invitation to accompany a visa application, please contact Chris Cree as soon as possible at ccree@earthlink.net.

Can You Find Me a Roommate?

If players need roommates, we can post announcements for them on this web site.

Do I Have To Use PayPal?

We prefer PayPal, but you may send a cheque or money order denominated in U.S. funds, together with a printout of the registration form, to Chris Cree, 3708 Bryn Mawr Drive, Dallas, TX, 75225, U.S.A.

What is Your Cancellation Policy?

If you cancel before the registration deadline of October 15th, 2008, we will issue you a full refund. After that date, the amount of the refund may depend on the effect of your cancellation on the tournament's budget.

Is SOWPODS Harmful?

Children and adults play using the Collins lexicon (which we still call SOWPODS here) around the world without ill effects. It is the word list used in most of the world, and is accessible even to American and Canadian players through online play. SOWPODS includes all words acceptable in North American play, and the five-point penalty rule (rather than loss of turn for challenging an acceptable word) mitigates the difference for players used to playing with the smaller lexicon.
